This is one of the few triathlons in
Belgium which has a beautiful and very challenging course. To make the event extra special, the swim leg actually takes part (mostly) inside a cave. The swim is in quite cold water (approx. 15
degrees C), but that doesn't bother me.
As for the race, I ended up in tenth place. The swim started rather good, but I didn't quite feel 100% comfortable inside the cave. Someone actually suddenly started pushing me under
(probably didn't see much - caves are dark). While I don't like this at the best of times, chances are very high that nobody can see you when you have problems, so I tried to search for some extra space after
that. The start of the bike portion was very bad. I think I did the first hill in too tough a gear, which completely blew my legs (and all chances of joining the leaders). I felt a lot better in the second half,
but it was too late by then. The run was reasonable at the start, and I think my second lap was real good. Well, it was the first
race in quite a while (not counting Dworp), so it was good to get back into the swing of thing. Let's hope I'll have a better performance next week.
